Board Profile

Professor. Dr. David Millar  is the  President of Millar Institute for Transdisciplinary and Development Studies (Millar Open University)/ MITDS; his own privately in the North of Ghana. The main specailisations: Postgraduate Programmes (PhD/ MPhil), Post-Doctoral and Post Masters Research in Culture and Development Studies

Until his retirement, he was Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS) from  2008 to 2012. Prof Millar previously served as  Dean for Research and Postgraduate Programmes, and Dean for the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research at the University for Development Studies.

He has a NGO; Centre for Cosmovision and Indigenous Knowledg (CECIK) since 1990. The focus of CEWCIK has been indgenous

knowledges and sciences in research and development.

Between 1999 and 2002, Prof. Millar was Project Coordinator for the Savannah Resource Management Project (SRMP) of the World Bank (IDA, GEF, and DANIDA).

He holds a PhD in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, an MSc. in Management of Agricultural Knowledge Systems from the Wageningen Agricultural University, Netherlands, and a BSc in Animal Science from the University of Ghana. He is also is a post-graduate certficate holder in Rural Extension (ICRE) and Farming Systems Research (ICRA) from the International Agricultural Centre, Netherlands.

He has served at the National Development Planning Commission of Ghana, he has also done extensive work in support of Government’s Development Policeis and Programmes. Pro bonus, he has provided policy advice to various Governmental Positions in Ghana and beyond.

He has also served on several Local Boards such as CEKOD, CARE International, WaterAid, and SENTENEL.

He is currently a Full Professor in Integrated Development Studies and a Fellow of the African Studies Centre – Lieden, The Netherlands
